Problems I Treat

Low back pain is probably the most common condition that patients will seek acupuncture.  Unfortunately it is usually a “last resort” to surgery, which means that these patients have endured countless day, weeks, months and even years of pain and discomfort before they finally break down and ask about acupuncture.   The truth is, acupuncture can be very effective in the treatment of low back pain, sciatica, femoralgia, neuritis, stenosis  and arthritis of the spine and should always be considered in the early stages of a back injury.  Repeated surgeries make it less likely that acupuncture will quickly address the problem, thereby making the treatment time longer.

Migraines often occurs at rate of 1 in every 10 people. Women are three times more likely to have migraines than men.  It is a severe often one sided headache around temple or around or behind one eye lasting for 2 hours to 2 days.  Migraines can spread to both sides in severe case with nausea, vomiting, and photophobia.  Migraines can have a pre-onset aura 12 to 36 hours prior such as blurred vision, mood changes.

Treatments for Migraines:  The western medical approach for migraines is to reverse the vasodilation by using medications to cause vasoconstriction. These medications for migraines come with the unwanted side effect such as dizziness, drowsiness, fatigue, chest, jaw, or neck tightness.   Acupuncture for Migraines is an extremely effective alternative for treatment.

Acupuncture treatments for insomnia, depression, anxiety, sinus problems, allergies and well being are also conditions that would require the insertion of needles into the face and/or ears.

If your features are tired, your eyes  baggy and your skin is without luster, yet you do not feel the need for cosmetic surgery, then Facial Acupuncture may be for you.  Is it really a facelift?  The answer is obviously NO. Nor is it intended to replace a face lift.  Cosmetic Acupuncture entails no incisions, sutures or acid peels and it will not produce sudden, drastic changes in underlying structures. What Cosmetic Acupuncture may offer is the reduction or erasure of fine lines and the reduction in the size of under eye bags.  Many patients report enhanced skin tone, increased energy and eyes that sparkle. Facial Acupuncture is based on time-tested principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine. A person’s overall health may also benefit.  Insomnia may be corrected and weight gain may be controlled, after all a person’s face is affected selectively by his or her internal organs.  Facial features reflect organic strengths, and as internal organs are fortified, one’s face reflects the improvement.  If you are willing to try something different and new,  you may find that facial acupuncture is the perfect partner in your quest for rejuvenation and renewal.

Facial Acupuncture treatments promote the circulation of Qi and blood in the face.  Increased blood circulation to the face moistens the skin and promotes collagen production for increased muscle tone and elasticity.  From a Western medicine perspective, it is thought that the needling creates production of more collagen and elastin in the face. Facial – Cosmetic Acupuncture is less expensive, healthier, and safer than the modern treatments.  It is virtually risk free and there are none of the side effects of surgery, lasers, scarring, possible atrophy and lengthy recovery times.  Your face will never look  stretched, burned or puffy

You may call Dr. Liz Smith and request  a free consultation as well as an estimate of cost and the number of treatments necessary.  A course of ten treatments is standard with periodic follow-up visits as needed. If you are a smoker or sun-worshiper expect your commitment to be longer.  There is a slight chance of minor temporary bruising.  A Homeopathic remedy may be recommended.
